Special Olympics Fundraising Charity Hockey Match
Updated: Oct 12, 2021
The ice was cold but the action was hot at the Special Olympics fundraising charity match between the law enforcement team from Weld County and our own home team champions, law enforcement officers from the Sheriff's Department, Cheyenne Police Department, and Warren Air Force Base Security Police. The event was held Saturday night, and raised awareness, as well as funds for our local Special Olympics athletes. I had a great time sitting in the stands with Joni Anthony and her mother, Bonnie, watching the game; you can see they were all smiles in the attached picture. Sitting in the bleachers with us were numerous other Special Olympics athletes along with their caregivers, who cheered for their local home team. I've been a Special Olympics volunteer for more than 24 of the 26 years I've been with the Laramie County Sheriff's Department. The joy I feel from watching these athletes as they compete in the yearly Special Olympics events is immeasurable. If you have ever had the privilege to meet one of these athletes, you know how contagious their smiles are, and you can feel their enthusiasm and love.
